How to Get a Refund from Apple for an Accidental App Store Purchase
Made a purchase on the App Store by mistake? You’re not alone. Whether it’s a kid buying game coins or you tapping “Buy” accidentally, Apple actually makes it possible to get a refund—if you act quickly.
Here’s exactly what you need to do to request a refund from Apple the right way.
✅ Step 1: Go to Apple’s Report a Problem Website
Visit reportaproblem.apple.com and log in with your Apple ID.
This is where Apple allows users to review purchases and request refunds.
✅ Step 2: Locate the Purchase
After logging in, scroll through your recent transactions.
Find the app, movie, subscription, or in-app item you want to request a refund for.
✅ Step 3: Choose “Request a Refund” from the Dropdown
Click on “Report a Problem” next to the item.
From the dropdown menu, select “Request a Refund,” then choose the reason for the request (e.g., accidental purchase, didn’t work as expected, etc.).
✅ Step 4: Submit Your Request
Click Submit, and Apple will review your request.
Refunds are usually processed within a few days. You’ll get an email confirmation once the decision is made.
🧠 Pro Tips:
- You usually have up to 14 days to request a refund.
- Subscriptions might need to be canceled first before a refund is granted.
- You can’t request refunds for purchases made with Apple gift cards in most cases.
